Dr. Fahim Khan


            M. Fahim Khan holds B.A. and M.A. (Statistics) from Punjab University, Pakistan, M.A and Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University, USA. He was associated with the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) since 1988 serving at various positions such as Head Research Division, Head Training Division and Chief, Islamic Economics, Cooperation and Development Division.  He also officiated for one year as Director, IRTI.  Before joining IRTI, he has worked in various teaching, research and executive positions in the Ministry of Planning, Government of Pakistan; International Islamic University, Pakistan;  King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia; Quaid-e-Azam University, Pakistan and Islamic Foundation, UK.  He held the position of Deputy Chief, Ministry of Planning and he was Professor of Economics and Director School of Economics in International Islamic University.  He was visiting scholar at Quaid-e-Azam University, King Abdulaziz University and Islamic Foundation.  He has been on deputation for one year to the State  Bank of Pakistan (the central bank of the country) as Advisor on Transformation of the Financial System (to conform to Shari’ah). 

            He is currently working as a Chairman of Riphah Center of Islamic Business, Riphah International University, Islamabad, Pakistan.

            He has intensively and extensively worked in following areas during his professional career:

1.         Economic Development.

2.         Foreign Trade and International Economics

3.         Money and Banking.

4.         Investment and Financial Analysis.

5.         International Labour Migration

6.         Islamic Economics and Finance.

7.         Statistics

8.         Econometrics

At the Ministry of Planning he has been leading the exercises related to developing econometric models for macro economic planning and forecasting as well as conducting research relating to macro economic policy issues.

M. Fahim Khan has 10 books and monographs on Islamic economics, banking and finance in his name published from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and UK.  In addition, he has over 11 publications in refereed journals and more than 20 other works in various books of readings and proceedings of seminars and conferences published from different parts of world.   These are besides the Research Reports and Policy Papers published for official use while serving in the Ministry of Planning in Pakistan.

            He is member of the Editorial Board of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, member of International Board of Islamic Economic Review (UK), member of the Board of Governors (Academic Group), Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance (UK).  He has also been the member of the Commission in Transformation of Financial System in Pakistan.  He has presented numerous papers in various International Conferences and Seminars.  He also received grants from international institutions for a research project on international labour migration and for another project on international trade channels and payments procedures.  He received grant from national institutions also for demographic research.

            He advised/supervised/examined numerous Ph.D./M.Phil. and M.Sc. theses written in universities in Pakistan, UK, Australia, Malaysia and Nigeria.  He also reviewed articles for different refereed international journals in economic and finance.
